Photography Instruction

From the beginning of my days as a professional jazz musician, professional close-up magician, then to professional photographer, teaching has always been a passion. Passing on knowledge and seeing students evolve is a source of great joy.

  Student Comments

“The level of skill in our instructors and students was unbelievable.   The photographic sites were awesome.  Instructors were available at all times to answer questions and offer suggestions.”
Wilton - Charleston ‘07

“Good workflow information. Critique sessions were helpful and we could learn from others. I like it when Tony visits in the field to offer suggestions, look through the viewfinder and point out things I might have missed.”
Barbara - Charleston Print ’07

“Tony is positive enthusiastic and encouraging. He selected good locations and showed us that photographs could be taken under poor light. He offered help to all members of the class and tailored his comments to the skill level of the student. Susan was extremely helpful in keeping things moving and organized. She also had her own tips for how to take pictures and use equipment. The critiques were quite good.

Tony Sweet is a master of color nature photography with a special twist. He adds his unique style and vision when making presentations. His workshops are geared to individual needs; there is magic in the learning that takes place.”
George - Delaware Water Gap ‘06

"You deliver real value for the money! We had a great group (amazing really), good fall color, and even the rain day was very productive.

Wonderful shooting sites, and plenty of time to shoot. I like how you are both available for advice and questions and make sure to come around to each individual while shooting. Best of all, you are accessible and available, but not pushy or preachy. There was lots of time to get suggestions and advice, and also be on our own to explore.”
Yvonne - Delaware Water Gap ‘06

"Tony’s enthusiasm for and knowledge of photography, and the attention he gives to every student’s improvement, combined with his experience in photographing the workshop venue, made it a wonderful experience and well worth the time and money invested.  I definitely plan to sign up for another workshop with Tony.”
Tom - Smokies ‘07

“Tony setting up shots to share; showing us images he has made in the field, especially overlays; helping with subject placement/manipulation and equipment use (like buttons on tripods); sharing shots he sees and how he would shoot them; lending us equipment to try; viewing slides of the areas we would visit before we were there; info on shooting water; info on Nik filters and multiples; critiques—very valuable.”
Linda - Charleston ‘07

“Tony and Sue are very approachable and set you quickly at ease. No question is ignored and answers come easy to these true professionals. There is very little slack/down time so you’re always on the go. You get a lot of bang for the buck."
Michael - New Hampshire ‘06

“Superb. You are very attentive, supportive and helpful. My very favorites are still my TS Workshop photos.”
John - Charleston Print ’07

"Your workshops show a sincere interest in customer service combined with a very “expressive” knowledge of photography.  That makes for an excellent combination in the workshops.

“They also show a solid knowledge of the surrounding environment you’re working in (aka Smokies).  I found the whole experience rewarding and enjoyable.  One I would gladly do again.”

Ed - Smokies ’07

“Your choice of locations for shooting was excellent.  You knew exactly how to help, even when I didn't ask.  All of the advice was priceless.  Thanks for showing us your system and equipment that makes things work better and thus better results.”

Carolyn - Smokies ‘07

“There wasn't any wasted time.  Days were jam packed with photo ops or instruction. Learned something new every day!”

Jim - Smokies ’07

“One of the best workshops I’ve attended”                                                            Dena - Smokies ‘07

“I had a great time working with Susan and Tony, and would most definitely take another workshop (or two, or more!) from Tony in the future. I learned a lot, and particularly benefitted from Tony's daily critiques of our photos. And Tony certainly showed us how to make the best of any photo situation we came across."

Dave - Smokies ‘07

“Tony’s images are colorful and vibrant and at the same time delicate and gentle; they speak volumes about who actually is.  He is extremely genuine and has an incredibly infectious enthusiasm that would get anyone excited about photography.  I haven’t stopped talking about his workshop since I came home.”

Jeniffer - Smokies ’07

“I really appreciated the attention given to the development of the students as photographers.  Tony showed no signs of “going through the motions”.  His enthusiasm and interest in our getting something positive out of the workshop was obvious.  His knowledge of the best shooting spots and when to be there enabled us to maximize our experience and get some great shots.  Tony’s patience and knowledge were very evident during the daily critiques and that made them an extremely valuable learning tool.

Tony’s enthusiasm for and knowledge of photography, and the attention he gives to every student’s improvement, combined with his experience in photographing the workshop venue, made it a wonderful experience and well worth the time and money invested.  I definitely plan to sign up for another workshop with Tony.”

Tom - Smokies ‘07

“Both of you are very attentive to our instruction. I appreciate how generous you are with helping me set-up a shot, when I'm struggling to find a subject. And the ability to watch how both of you set-up your own shots is very helpful."
Mark - Acadia ‘07

I was very pleased with the workshop overall. It was great that Tony approached the attendees in the field and asked how they were doing and if they needed anything. The in-the-field demo of multiples and image overlays was good. I was also happy to see there were no beginners at the workshop and the instruction stayed at a good technical and creative level. That is what I had signed up for.

An excellent location, an outstanding workshop and a great experience.”

Nikhil - Acadia ‘07

These workshops are designed to help you become a better photographer.  Tony's images and discussion of how they are obtained are inspirational.  His instruction and suggestions, both in the classroom and on location, will provide you with the knowledge and techniques to improve your photography.  Both Tony and Susan circulate during shooting sessions to answer questions, offer advice and help as needed.  They are always willing and able to answer questions and offer encouragement and advise.”

Bill - Acadia ‘07

“I always learn something or have a light bulb go off.  This was no exception.  Have spent some time shooting what I think I learned and the results were encouraging.  The expertise of the both of you makes it easy and comfortable to learn.

Photography is part education and part evolution of one’s talent.  Tony’s workshops focus on both with hands on photography, candid critiques and a personal drive to have you leave his workshop a better photographer than the day you arrived.  He succeeds.”
Joe - Acadia ‘07

“Tony was a great instructor and really went out of his way to help everyone. His presentations were very insightful and I liked that he took us through the equipment he uses in detail. Susan was also very attentive to everyone and helpful while we were in the field. It was very well organized (without being overly rigid) and we really got to all the locations in the best light. It was also a very nice group of people.”

Ellen - Cape May ‘07

“Excellent first experience.  Instruction was easy to understand and provided with patience.  Management, coordination and direction was professional.  I always felt at ease and in an environment that was interactive between Tony and the group and not just a lecture.

Tony has that rare ability to take his years of professional experience, willingly make it available in a sharing, non-intimidating and supportive environment raising the confidence and ability of every person that he teaches.”

Joe - Cape May ‘07

“The workshop was inspiring. I learned a lot from Tony’s comments. I liked the location. The organization was good. There was ample opportunity to ask all kind of questions… Overall, I loved it.  Sue and Tony thanks.”

John - Cape May ’07

“Because of Tony's passion, dedication and patience I came away from this workshop a better photographer. One just needs to look at my work to see this. With Tony and Susan working as a team no one's needs are ever overlooked. From beginner to advanced photographer, you will walk away with a wealth of knowledge. Would I recommend taking a workshop with Tony? I can't wait till next year to attend another.”

Michael - Cape May ‘07

"Tony is a master of his craft, and retains a refreshing humility and enthusiasm for his work.  He generously shares his wealth of knowledge with his students, holding nothing back.  I learned far more than I ever expected, and returned home with a whole new way of seeing and shooting that I am eager to apply.  I can tell I just grasped the first layer of what he has to offer, and I can hardly wait to take another workshop with him!”

Kathleen - White Mountains ‘07

“Great being with fellow photography addicts (who else would get up at 4:30 AM). I learned a lot about filters and your techniques for shooting flowers; two things which I had hoped to learn.
I liked the personal help from both of you…”

John - NS ‘07

“Liked the small group size, the critique sessions, eating together, Tony’s enthusiasm and his effort to give one-on-one attention to all the students.
Loved the location. Liked that Tony asked our opinions about where to shoot, and during critiques.”

Linda - NS ’07

“Tony is a good teacher, especially in developing and eye for the unusual or interesting shot.”

Stan - NS ‘07

“This was my first photo workshop ever and what a great experience! I learned more in a week than I’ve done in years. There are definitely many more workshops in my future.”
